Leaning By How Much?

A very busy tourist attraction in the Tuscany region, and its intriguing story has always been in history books.

You can get to Pisa by train from Livorno. The visit to the tower of Pisa is more enjoyable if you will walk to the tower's location from the train station. Along the way, you will see nice shops and stores, and interesting street scenes - vendors, other tourists and people getting along their daily lives. Much more enjoyable if you are into street photography, so a decent camera is highly recommended.

Getting to the site, the place was very busy but not crowded – as it was the last weeks of summer when we visited. Depending on the number of visitors, as you walk through the main gate, you can head straight to the leaning tower or you can first visit the churches or walk around the grounds.

You will have to spend a significant amount of time marvelling at the leaning tower, taking pictures (just like everyone else) and visiting the other attractions like the Battistero di San Giovanni and the Cattedrale di Pisa. Bring drinking water and snacks with you, and a mat maybe – you can lie down and relax at the grounds of the battistero.

Take note that taking photos of the police or other security officers is strictly prohibited. If they see you doing so, they will do check on you.

On our way back to the train station, we had pasta (and the local beer) at the patio of Osteria La Toscana on Via Carlo Fedeli, where a gentleman was playing the guitar for background music.

We spent almost a day visiting this attraction - that included dining and shopping. We were lucky we were in the neighborhood because Benetton was having their summer sale on apparels and accessories.

One of the places that should be on your list if you are visiting Rome or Florence.
